The Welcome Wreck: Move-in and Week of Welcome
Hello Yellow Jacket Families!
We hope you enjoy this video in The Welcome Wreck: Georgia Tech 101 video series, featuring Robyn Crutchfield and Tegra Mayanna from Housing and Residence Life as they talk about Move-In and Week of Welcome. They've provided a recap of the primary messages and shared a copy of their presentation at the bottom of this post.
This is the first of three Welcome Wreck videos offered by Housing and Residence Life, and we encourage you to watch them all, ideally in chronological order.
- Move-in and Week of Welcome (this post)
- Housing and Residence Life overview with Executive Director, Jenny Cotton
- The Residential Experience: Parents' Guide (video will be posted shortly)
Enjoy watching and re-watching as much as you like, hopefully with your student! Add your comments or questions here in this post. You'll open up conversations with other families, and Parent and Family Programs will get back to you with answers and support.
Go Jackets!

RECAP NOTES:
New Student Move-In
New Student Move-In is Saturday, August 9, and Sunday, August 10, 2025. Students will need to sign up for an appointment for a specific time to move into their residence halls. We ask that you stick to your move-in time to help with traffic flow on campus.
When you get to campus, you will go to the Campus Recreation Center (CRC) Parking Deck — not your residence hall assignment. Start at the CRC to check in while still in your car. They will direct you to your residence hall once you’ve checked in there.
At your residence hall’s unloading zone, you will unload your vehicle into the provided large bins. The driver of the car will then move their car to the parking location nearest your residence hall. Shuttles will help bring your driver back to your residence hall.
Week of Welcome
Week of Welcome (Aug 11-17) is a time for students to get connected to other new Yellow Jackets, to the Georgia Tech Campus, and the City of Atlanta. Students will have more than 250 events that they can choose to attend to learn more about different student organizations that they may want to join, departments and on-campus resources that they may want to utilize, and to just have a fun time meeting new people before classes get started.
The schedule for Week of Welcome (WOW) is hosted on the Georgia Tech-branded Guidebook app — the same one used for FASET and Family Weekend. You can download the app and the Week of Welcome Guide today! While we suggest downloading the mobile app, please encourage your student to update their email to their official GT email while in a web browser. The mobile version is going to be a better way to see the information and will be needed for check-ins, to indicate waiver submission for high-risk activities, and to receive notifications in a timely fashion.
Every student who participates in Week of Welcome will need to fill out a waiver. Students will need to fill out the form that applies to them based on their age as of Monday, August 11. If they are 17 or under, they will need to share their guardian’s name and email address, and the Week of Welcome team will send their guardian a waiver to sign for them in DocuSign. Unfortunately, that is not an automatic send once their name and email address are entered in the form. We will send those daily leading up to and during Week of Welcome. We recommend that students take a screenshot of the waiver submission when they complete it to show to event hosts.
Our hope is that families encourage their students to really dive into Week of Welcome by attending a variety of events, meeting new people, and getting familiar with their new Georgia Tech home. Please create times to check in with your student to ask them about the events they attended and to encourage them to try something new that week.
