The Georgia Tech Emergency Notification System (GTENS) is the system Georgia Tech uses to communicate in an emergency with the campus community. Within the last year, we transformed GTENS from sending one type of message to being more inclusive of the diverse event types that impact our campus. Generally, you will see two different kinds of GTENS: GTENS Inform or GTENS EMERGENCY! When you see these different monikers we want you and your student to be able to identify immediately if action needs to be taken.
A GTENS Inform provides information to the campus community. For example, there may be an incident nearby that we want you to be aware of, but it does not require any action on your part.
If you get a GTENS EMERGENCY! we want you to think I need to take action now. This type of alert is meant to warrant a response; we need the community to take an action to protect themselves from an incident. Additionally, if you get the initial GTENS EMERGENCY!, we will be sending GTENS Updates every 15 minutes so the campus knows we are still working on the situation.
The final type of message you can get is a GTENS All Clear, which we will send when the situation has been resolved.
Additionally, within the last year we decided to include parents in our system. That means you can now sign up to receive GTENS and get the same alerts your student gets!
