🔥 Passing the Torch: Georgia Tech & the 1996 Olympic Legacy

Celebrate 30 years of Olympic history right where it happened! Hear firsthand stories from GT community members who experienced the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games, capped off by a special ceremonial lighting of the original 1996 Olympic torch—honoring the engineering legacy of the late GT professor Sam Shelton, who helped design it.

• About the Event: Experience an unforgettable night of live music as Georgia Tech Arts and the Georgia Tech Musician's Network present Battle of the Bands. Hosted by comedian Mark Kendall, emerging bands compete for the opportunity to share the stage with Atlanta Soul sensation Ruby Velle and the Soulphonics. From electrifying original music to powerhouse performances, this high-energy event celebrates the next generation of artists. Join in the fun by casting your vote for Audience Choice Awards and show off your style in our Soul Nite '70s Costume Contest!

🍽️ "A Taste of Georgia" Dinner at Brittain Dining Hall

Kick off Family Weekend in one of Georgia Tech’s most iconic campus landmarks in the newly renovated historic Brittain Dining Hall. This special dinner will feature Southern-inspired favorites, Atlanta flavors, and a few Georgia Tech-inspired surprises. Whether you're sharing stories from move-in, exploring campus together, or simply enjoying a great meal, it's the perfect way to experience a little Yellow Jacket hospitality.

GT Athletics is hosting a free pre-game block party featuring live music, food trucks, concessions, and Yellow Jacket Alley (where we line up to cheer on the team as they arrive!).

🏋️ Enjoy Complimentary Access to the Campus Recreation Center (CRC)

Family Weekend participants enjoy free CRC access all weekend! Please plan to arrive at the CRC with your GT student while wearing your official Family Weekend credential badge so staff can verify your registration and your student can assist with facility entry or sports equipment checkouts. Guests will also complete a brief safety waiver at the front desk upon arrival. (Note: Student accompaniment is required for equipment checkouts, but open facility areas like the fitness floor or indoor track are open for general use once checked in).

🏃 Alpha Xi Delta "Step It Up 5K"

Run or walk for a cause! On Sunday, September 20 at 9:00 a.m., the GT chapter of Alpha Xi Delta is hosting its 12th annual 5K supporting Atlanta Angels, a local non-profit empowering children and families in the metro Atlanta foster care system.
